In 2009, Francis joined the Board of the HSBC Pension Scheme, a hybrid scheme which now has over £30 billion of assets under management and over 200,000 members. Over the last 11 years he has chaired the Communications and Engagement Committee, and is currently the Deputy Chair of the Board. Francis is also the chair of the Sustainable Biomass Program, a certification Scheme for woody biomass, and Deputy Chair of ResponsibleSteel, a certification Scheme for steelmaking.
